PREPARING FOR INTERVIEW
We all know that
we are judged
in the first 30 seconds.
MAKE IT COUNT
- Be clean
- Well groomed
- Smart and suitably dressed
- Good shoes
- Firm, but not excessive handshake
- Smile

All of the above
may seem obvious,
but it is essential to
prepare well
- Be on time. They might not be interested if you cannot be
relied upon to be punctual.
- Be quietly confident - and assured - even if you don't feel
it!
- Be a good listener and be genuinely interested in what is
said to you. Your replies count!
- Imagine you are in the employer's shoes. How would you wish
a candidate to appear?
- What you may lack in experience, make up for in confidence
and enthusiasm.
- You will be expected to ask about any aspect of the job you
feel unclear about.
- Be honest about any genuine difficulties that the job may
throw up for you.

|
- Utilise your good qualities, be kind, gracious and
understanding, even if the employer is late, aggravating or rude. It's possible he/she is
testing your people handling skills.
- When asked your reasons for leaving a position, always make
positive replies. Never speak disparagingly about a previous employer.
- Be prepared for any awkward questions you may be asked i.e.
"Are you prepared to travel?"
" Would you be available to start right away?"
- Remember what you've put in your CV, you may be asked
questions.
- Pick out key experience you have stated in your CV that
would be relevant to the job.
- Think of what attracted you to the vacancy and explain why
you are interested in this particular job or company.
- Try to get some idea when the employer will be able to make
a decision on whether you've been successful in your application.
- They may tell you how many others have applied, or if they
are going to short list for a second interview.
Always finish on a high
note of pleasant
anticipation, a
smile and a
handshake.
